According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2009 there were 10.8 million reported auto accidents in the United States. Unfortunately many involve a musculoskeletal pain injury, such as whiplash, low back pain, extremity pain (neck, hand, arm, shoulder, leg, foot) with numbness or tingling, and general muscle pain. Such injuries can be very expensive to treat and may develop into long term or chronic pain problems if acupuncture treatment does not begin right away.

We have treated many auto accident patients with acupuncture. Whether they have been in a car accident or motorcycle accident, acupuncture provided them effective pain relief and a speedy recovery by decreasing their inflammatory responses, decreasing their pain, and increasing their blood circulation.

While some noticed the pain immediately after their accident, others didn’t begin to experience pain for almost 2 weeks after the accident.

In any case, we recommend acupuncture treatment begin immediately.

For auto accident patients experiencing stabbing pains, weakness, tingling or aching pains in their muscles, we often use an acupuncture technique commonly referred to as Trigger Point Therapy. TPT allows our acupuncturists to identify and determine a patient’s sensitive trigger points from specific muscles or entire muscle groups. We then stimulate these trigger points that release endorphins to relax the muscles and loosen any tight nerves. TPT is very effective to restore the natural balance of the patient’s muscles before the accident.

In addition to lessening physical pain, acupuncture can reduce any negative emotions from an auto accident. For example, in response to a “no-fault” auto accident, it would be natural and expected to experience the negative emotion of Anger. Treating certain acupuncture points would allow us to move through the natural process of Anger with greater mental calmness and with evenness of temper. We look to calm anger traits like resentment, frustration, and irritability because they can manifest to ill-health ailments like hypertension or high blood tension if not untreated.

In California, motorists are required to have least $15,000 Liability Bodily Injury coverage per person. This money can be used to offset any medical bills for treatment. The good news is that you are often allowed to seek care from the health care practitioner of your choice, including acupuncturists. We recommend you check with your auto insurance provider.

Try acupuncture to treat your auto accident injury. Schedule an appointment or call (714) 828-2345 at WooRee Alternative Medical Group in Anaheim, CA to learn how you may be able to have your auto insurance pay for acupuncture medical bills.

Acupuncture in combination with herbal remedies has been used for centuries to treat female infertility and many fertility disorders. For example, spasmed tubes can be de-spasmed, but blocked tubes cannot. In addition, acupuncture can improve ovarian and follicular functions, such as increasing blood flow to the endometrium.

“Acupuncture can be beneficial to some women trying to have a baby”, says Jessie Yu, President and licensed acupuncturist of WooRee Alternative Medical Group in Anaheim, CA.

Added Yu, “Fertility success depends a lot on increasing blood flow and circulation to a woman’s ovaries and uterus. The stronger the lining of her uterus, the more likely it will hold and nourish healthy eggs to full-term.”

It’s not uncommon for female patients to seek acupuncture treatment after experiencing failed IVF (in vitro fertilization) and IUI (intra uterine insemination) attempts. Not only is using acupuncture to treat infertility less stressful, it’s less expensive.

On average, basic IVF costs around $12,000, and can be higher if ART (assisted reproductive technologies) are required.

However, infertility acupuncture treatment plans at WooRee in Anaheim, CA cost a lot less expensive. For example, they administer a 2-month plan or a 3-month plan depending on the woman’s age and medical history. Each plan requires 2 treatments a week and each treatment costs $100. A portion of each treatment can be covered by some health insurance plans.

“Last year we treated a woman in her late thirties who had tried for 7 years to get pregnant. During that time she had 3 miscarriages and made little progress with her OB/GYN and fertility specialist. But she was determined to try again and choose acupuncture. After 1 month into her fertility plan (8 acupuncture treatments), she became pregnant and had a healthy baby girl last month,” Jessie said.

Another benefit of choosing acupuncture over traditional infertility clinics is the simple fact that acupuncture is virtually non-invasive. A woman doesn’t feel embarrassed or scared because acupuncture doesn’t probe, extract, and poke. Acupuncture’s needles barely enter the skin and the whole process is painless.

If you or a loved one is trying to conceive naturally, or going through IVF, IUI and other ART treatments, schedule an appointment or call (714) 828-2345 at WooRee Alternative Medical Group in Anaheim, CA to learn more about how they can safely and effectively treat infertility using acupuncture.

The latest American Cancer Society estimates about 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67.

Instead of traditional drug or surgical treatments, acupuncture for men with enlarged prostate gland problems, such as urinary hesitancy, frequent or painful urination, has shown to be an effective, non-invasive alternative treatment that delivers lasting relief.

At WooRee Alternative Medical Group in Anaheim, CA, we will try to explain the causes and symptoms of an enlarged prostate by reviewing the most common Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) patterns of “disharmony” that help us identify the appropriate acupuncture treatment.

Retention of Damp-Heat

When a patient with an enlarged prostate describes his urination symptoms with phrases like “stopping and starting”, “dribbling”,“painful” “all the time”, “sometimes bloody”, “sometimes like rice soup”, “always feeling full”, we’ll ask about his dietary habits.

More often we discover he eats too much spicy, greasy food, wine and alcohol which all affect the Spleen and lead to the development of Damp-Heat. By its nature, Damp is downward bearing and so can lodge in the Lower Jiao. Contributory factors may be Heat either from a constrained Liver or from Kidney Yin Xu.

With acupuncture, Damp-Heat attacks can be treated with a combination of specific and general points (meridians) associated with the liver, bladder, spleen, and conception vessel (REN channel). The specific points are palpated during the physical examination and selected if we notice they are noticeably tender and/or tight. The general points are chosen on the basis of the pattern of disharmony.

Retention of Cold-Damp

Like the Damp-Heat pattern above, this is similar to Zhuo Niao (turbid urine) with similar symptoms that can become worse with cold, and better with heat. Patients with an enlarged prostate often tell us they feel a “dragging down sensation”, aches in their lower abdomen, tiredness, a “greasy sticky” tongue. These are all considered Damp symptoms.

Again, dietary factors are a key cause, particularly if we learn he consumes excessive raw or cold food, and drinks too much beer. Increased susceptibility to symptoms can be exacerbated by a weak Spleen, and weak Kidney Yang. For example, when the kidney’s warming function gets depleted, the Spleen gets weakened. This in turn precipitates Damp (Kidney Yang Xu increases susceptibility to Cold in the Lower Jiao). Another significant often involves the repeated exposure of a patients to cold wet weather over a period of time.

With acupuncture, Cold-Damp attacks can be treated with a combination of specific and general points (meridians) associated with the liver, bladder, spleen, and conception vessel (REN channel). The specific points are palpated during the physical examination and selected if we notice they are noticeably tender and/or tight. The general points are chosen on the basis of the pattern of disharmony.

Kidney Xu

The pattern of Kidney Xu is related to the TCM classification of Lao Lin (Fatigue Lin). We often diagnose this pattern when patients with an enlarged prostate tell us their urination streams are “weak”, “dribbling” “frequent at night”, or express a “need to go when feeling tired” or “need to go after sex”. Pronounced Kidney Yang Xu may cause the patient’s tongue to be swollen or pale, feel chilly or have a weak pulse. Pronounced Kidney Yin Xu can make the patient’s urine to appear dark yellow, and sometimes contain blood.

It is very common to see Kidney Xu syndrome due to the ageing process taking its toll on the kidneys. The usual factors that deplete the Kidneys need no mention here with the exception of “too much sex” which may well have a depleting affect that more directly affects the prostate.

With acupuncture, Kidney Xu can be treated with a combination of specific and general points (meridians) associated with the kidney and conception vessel (REN channel). The specific points are palpated during the physical examination and selected if we notice they are noticeably tender and/or tight. The general points are chosen on the basis of the pattern of disharmony.

Stagnation of Qi

Traditionally known as Qi Lin, the stagnation of Qi is usually related to the patient’s emotional state. When asked to describe his urination symptoms, a patient with an enlarged prostate will most often say things like “trying to hold it”, “uncomfortable” and feeling “relief of discomfort and pain in the lower abdomen after going”, especially if he’s under stress. Upon further questioning, we’ll often identify the classic culprits of local external stagnation like spending too much time sitting, not getting enough exercise, and/or not expressing sexual energy feelings (such as orgasm). Sometimes we diagnose Qi Lin internal stagnation from a patient telling us he suffers from chronic constipation, or some form of local trauma, injury or shock to the area (such as surgery).

With acupuncture, Qi Lin stagnation can be treated with a combination of specific and general points (meridians) associated with the large intestine, liver, stomach, gall bladder, and conception vessel (REN channel). The specific points are palpated during the physical examination and selected if we notice they are noticeably tender and/or tight. The general points are chosen on the basis of the pattern of disharmony.

Stagnation of Blood

There is a growing tendency to regard an enlarged prostate as due to stagnation of blood, particularly if the swollen prostate is found to be hard or lumpy. We often see classical symptoms of this pattern when a patient with an enlarged prostate tells us he has “bloody urine”, pain in his lower abdomen and/or his genitals, and a purplish tongue color.

This pattern often results from chronic stagnation from the other patterns we’ve already discussed, in particular Qi Lin stagnation. Any external or internal causes of local stagnation, such as too much sitting and not getting enough exercise, will obviously exacerbate stagnation of blood.

With acupuncture, stagnation of blood can be treated with a combination of specific and general points (meridians) associated with the spleen and liver. The specific points are palpated during the physical examination and selected if we notice they are noticeably tender and/or tight. The general points are chosen on the basis of the pattern of disharmony.

If you are like many of our female patients in their late 30s and early 40s going through premenopause and concerned about taking hormone replacement therapy, a combination of acupuncture and herbs can be a safe and alternative treatment plan to help get through this transition.

Almost 70% of women approaching menopause may experience dozens of premenopause symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irregular periods, cramps, mood swings, and decreased sex drive.

We believe these are signs of a hormonal “imbalance” in a woman’s body and not an illness.

Depending on her physical and mental health, symptoms can be either heightened or reduced. For example, symptoms can be aggravated if a patient doesn’t get enough sleep, works excessively (stress), and has a poor diet.

Premenopause can be very difficult for some women to manage. Patients report they don’t feel like they used to, aren’t sure who they are anymore, or know what to do. Feelings of sadness and depression are common.

Acupuncture and herbal treatments can reduce or eliminate many of these symptoms, especially hot flashes and mood changes. For example, the relaxing effects of acupuncture have shown to improve a woman’s menstrual cycle and her reproductive health (fertility).

In our practice, we approach premenopause from the viewpoint of “rebalancing” the stimulation and release of a woman’s hormones in safe and natural ways. In addition to a program of acupuncture treatments, we prescribe natural herbal medicines to help restore a woman’s sense of well-being.

For example, we often compound herbal formulas from the phytoestrogen herbs Black Cohosh and Dong Quai for patients with low hormones because they have been shown to replace some of the missing estrogen hormones. Patients report they feel less irritable, depressed or moody. To treat hormonal imbalances, we compound herbal formulas from no-estrogenic herbs like Macafem because it encourages the production of natural hormones. Patients report feeling more energetic and having a healthier sex drive (libido).

If you’re like millions of seasonal allergy sufferers, you dread the Spring because you have to endure endless episodes of sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, running nose, wheezing, itching, and fatigue.

Many of our patients will come to us after they’ve had little to no long-term relief from OTC and prescription allergy medications, including antihistamines, steroids, nasal sprays, and eye drops. They’ve tried allergy shots and been to allergists, but still their chronic allergy symptoms persist and suffer from drug therapy’s side effects.

We believe at Wooree Alternative Medical Group that acupuncture for allergy relief is a safe and cost-effective treatment to restore harmony and balance to your body’s immune system.

Some of our patients have seen an immediate decrease in their allergic symptoms just after just a few acupuncture treatments, such as a less number of sneezes and coughs after contact with pollen. For example, one of our patients suffering from hay fever found after 5 acupuncture treatments he didn’t find the need to use his daily inhaler. By his 9th treatment he felt so well that he stopped his daily prescription medications. Not only did he feel remarkably better, he saved money by not paying for expensive medications and inhalers. He revisits us only twice a year for a booster, and tells us he happily mows his lawn now!

Acupuncture for allergy elimination is a natural, pain-free, drug-free technique that goes much further than traditional Western medicine by exploring the underlying “causes” to help detect and desensitize allergens like mold, latex, pets, foods, pollen, and dust mites . For example, in our practice, we often find patients experience persistent allergy symptoms because their diets consist of excessive sugar and milk. In general, by reducing their intake of sweets or lactose products, along with acupuncture treatments, our patients end up reducing or eliminating their allergy conditions, and dependence on allergy medications.

In terms of diagnosing allergies from acupuncture’s “holistic” perspective, we always find a “Wind Invasion” like Wind-Dampness, Wind-Cold, or Wind-Heat. When the wind is not treated in the early stages, symptoms like itching red eyes (heat) and scratchy throat (wind) become worse. Acupuncture dispels wind from specific body organs, like the bladder meridian (early stages of wind-cold conditions).

Say goodbye to your allergies today! Schedule an appointment or call (714) 828-2345 at Wooree Alternative Medical Group in Anaheim, CA so you can become allergy-free.

You’ve tried everything to fight bad breath but the smell doesn’t go away. You’ve followed your dentist’s recommendations to brush your teeth and tongue and floss 2-3 times a day, but that doesn’t work. All the latest mouth washes and gums offer little help. You followed the advice of a nutritionist by staying away from eating odor-rich foods like onions and garlic, and still, no luck.

Your bad breath persists. What are you to do?

Having constant bad breath is embarrassing and can cause tensions at work and home. Let’s be honest, who wants to be close to someone with bad breath?

Few people realize that acupuncture is an alternative treatment to fight bad breath.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bad breath is often caused by “stomach heat” which is sign of a dysfunctional digestive system (stomach, spleen, liver, intestines). The mouth and gums are considered extensions of the digestive system and represent the condition of the stomach.

As with many bodily ailments, the digestive organs are not in harmony (yin and yang) or balance. This could be due to a poor diet, insufficient exercise, prolonged illness, stress, and other reasons.

For example, your liver heats up when you display negative emotions, like anger, resentment or stress. This in turn affects your stomach. When the stomach heat accumulates, it works itself up to the throat and you get bad breath. The smell will “stagnate” and if you don’t take actions to lower your heat (calm the body), like going for a gentle walk or drinking cooling teas.

Imagine a wet carpet trying to dry out but never does, leaving that damp smell throughout your house. This is what is going on inside your digestive system, and the eventual outcome is a smelly bad breath.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the stomach doesn’t like heat but the spleen enjoys warmth. The stomach takes comfort with a little moisture while the spleen gets aggravated by excessive moisture. So a happy medium between the two is required.

We can help you find that happy medium and fight bad breath with acupuncture. We can tell if you have “internal heat” simply by taking your pulse. Our licensed acupuncturists will develop a personalized treatment plan for you to fight bad breath.

Just recently we helped a patient stop his chronic bad breath problem after just 1 acupuncture session. Granted every patient is different, and results may vary for each patient, but acupuncture with a prescription of organic herbal medicines can greatly help reduce stomach heat.

We also encourage patients to fight bad breath by improving their diet. This means re-evaluating eating and drinking habits. Very often the patient tells us they regularly drink lots of hot coffee and soda and consumes lots of food that are greasy, refined and processed. Acidic and sugary foods and drinks need to be lessened or stopped completely in order to prevent further injury to the stomach yin and rebalance your body.

Many of our patients with shoulder disorders, including adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), rotator cuff disease and osteoarthritis, have found longer lasting relief with acupuncture and acupressure instead of taking drug treatments.

Acupuncture for shoulder pain works by:

Releasing chemical compounds in the body that relieve pain

Overriding pain signals in the nerves

Allowing energy (Qi) or blood to flow freely through the body

Because the body is interconnected and integrated by a series of channels, tension from one muscle group (neck) can affect another muscle group (shoulder) . Therefore we treat all the entire region of surrounding muscle groups following the course of a specific channel.

For example, one of our patients suffering from shoulder pain had a knot on her trapezius muscle. We successfully treated her pain with the Tui Na technique by not just focusing on this muscle alone, but by also relaxing the surrounding muscles, such as detoids, rhomboids, SCM, and even the biceps. We targeted the acupuncture points along a specific channel, in her case it was her Gallbladder channel, and moved the stagnation that was causing the pain and stiff muscles. We’re happy to report that her should pain has not returned in part because she took our “stay healthy” advice to start a routine of qi gong exercises and neck stretches on her own.

It’s interesting to note that in 2005, the Cochrane Collaboration, an international network of more than 28,000 dedicated people from over 100 countries, wanted to study the determine the safety and efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of adults with shoulder pain.

Their scientists found and analyzed 9 research studies that tested over 500 people who had shoulder pain.

The test subjects had either acupuncture, a placebo (fake therapy), ultrasound, gentle movement or exercises usually for 20-30 minutes, two to three times a week for 3 to 6 weeks.

While the studies were small, the Cochrane review still provides the best scientific evidence that acupuncture cannot be proven as a harmful non-drug treatment for shoulder pain.

In fact, the evidence suggests that acupuncture plus exercise can help reduce pain and improve the shoulder’s range of motion and function.

Acupuncture treatment for insomnia can help relieve this sleeping disorder in a short period of time, and is one of the most important non-drug therapies for insomnia.

In general, acupuncture treatment for insomnia improves the quality of sleep by techniques of reinforcement and reduction, which help harmonize Yin and Yang, strengthen vital Qi and dispel pathogens, and dredge the channels.

According to WooRee President and licensed acupuncturist Jessie Yu, “Success for treating insomnia is to judge the situation between Yin and Yang first, and then regulate their imbalance back to normal. Once Yin and Yang restore to balance, essence and energy resume their jobs, which will harmonize the relationship between human body and spirit. And then finally spirit will be back to where it should be.”

Patients begin to see results, and sleep better at night, in a relatively short period of time after undergoing WooRee acupuncture treatments, in combination with exercise and Chinese herbs.

So if you or someone in your family is suffering from the debilitating effects of insomnia, and seeking a holistic treatment alternative to expensive prescription drugs, then call WooRee Alternative Health Group in Anaheim today at (714) 828-2345 or Schedule an appointment to learn how their staff of acupuncturists may be able to help you or a loved one be insomnia-free!
